The ever-expanding Yellowstone universe, created by Taylor Sheridan, introduces another spin-off focusing on the beloved character Kayce Dutton, portrayed by Luke Grimes.
Luke Grimes Teases Expansive Yellowstone Sequel Series, Y: Marshals
Movie Web’s very own George Edelman recently had the privilege of conducting an in-depth interview with Luke Grimes, delving into the actor’s latest venture, the darkly comedic Western Eddington, while also exploring exciting new details about the much-anticipated Yellowstone sequel series, Y: Marshals.

Grimes shared exciting insights into the development of Y: Marshals, revealing that the spin-off will significantly broaden the scope of the Yellowstone universe, exploring new dimensions and narratives. He hinted that the series will allow his character, Kayce Dutton, to forge his own unique path, discovering his role and purpose within this expanded world.
I can’t say it too much about it (Y: Marshals), but, you know, I will say that the story that we’ve started to figure out for him really opens up the world for him in a way that Yellowstone sort of couldn’t.
You know, he was always sort of stuck in between this rock and hard place. And it was…it was a character that just, you know, he kept saying, “I don’t know what to do with my life.
I don’t know where to fit in.” Oh my God, I’m so sick of saying that. So I think finally he has somewhere to go and something to do. And it’s, it’ll be very exciting.”
‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Off ‘Y: Marshals’ Casts Kayce Dutton in Elite U.S. Marshals Unit
The highly anticipated Yellowstone spin-off, Y: Marshals, will see Luke Grimes reprising his role as the iconic Kayce Dutton, marking him as the only confirmed cast member for the series thus far. This latest addition to Taylor Sheridan’s sprawling universe of Yellowstone spin-offs promises to deliver fresh storytelling while introducing significant shifts in the franchise’s formula.
One major change is the departure from the franchise’s traditional streaming home, as Y: Marshals will not premiere exclusively on Paramount+ but instead make its debut on CBS, broadening its accessibility to a wider audience. Another surprising shift, which may spark concern among Yellowstone fans, is that Y: Marshals will be the first series in the franchise not penned by Taylor Sheridan himself, signaling a new creative direction for the beloved saga.
Y: Marshals is slated to premiere later this year, and fans can look forward to the official synopsis below for a glimpse into what lies ahead for Kayce Dutton in this thrilling new chapter.
“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
Since reaching a highly divisive and emotionally charged conclusion at the end of its fifth and final season, the blockbuster series Yellowstone has aggressively expanded its universe by launching a diverse array of spin-offs, including the critically acclaimed prequel shows 1883 and 1923. This growing franchise also features promising projects like an untitled series centered on the fierce Beth Dutton and her steadfast partner Rip Wheeler, as well as the intriguing The Madison, which will star the acclaimed Michelle Pfeiffer as the resilient matriarch of the McIntosh family.
Originally hailing from the bustling streets of New York City, the McIntosh family has decisively left the chaotic urban life behind to embrace a fresh start in the serene yet challenging Madison River valley of central Montana.
